With both China and the Netherlands looking at alternative and greener ways for energy storage, applications and production, both countries are more and more focusing on hydrogen as a solution to the current energy problems. What is hydrogen, what policies do China and the Netherlands have, what are the major projects from the private sector and what’s the focus of the main research institutes and universities. In this series of 5 webinars we try to address these issues and give an in-depth analysis into the hydrogen sector from several angles with expert speakers from China and the Netherlands.
In this fifth and final episode we’ll introduce in-depth China’s major hydrogen projects and address the local opportunities and initiatives. Our co-organizer, UNDP, will be speaking again to give a general introduction, plus several Chinese cities with a more detailed introduction of their current policies and projects.

Fons Klein Tuente studied Chinese & business for 4 years in Maastricht and 2 years translation Chinese / English / Dutch in Antwerp. From 2012 to 2016, he worked for the Chinese e-commerce company LightInTheBox in Beijing where he was responsible for the Dutch business development and team leader of the freelance team (translators, customer service, social media and designers). Fons then moved to South China to work for the Foshan government (a city next to Guangzhou) from 2016 to 2019. He was the team leader of the international investment promotion team and who tried to get international investments and projects to the city. His ever-present interest in science & technology drove him to the function of innovation officer in the Dutch consulate of Guangzhou in the team of Taake manning since September 2019. Fons focuses on several sectors, including hydrogen, blockchain and smart manufacturing.
丁晓枫曾于荷兰马斯特里赫特学习中文及商科(4年),并于比利时安特卫普研习中文/英语/荷兰语翻译(2年)。 2012-2016年,于北京供职于中国电商企业兰亭集序,负责荷兰业务开发以及自由职业团队管理(翻译、客服、社交媒体、设计)。随后,丁晓枫移居华南。2016-2019年,就职于佛山市政府部门。带领佛山市投资促进中心国际投资推广部团队,开展佛山外商投资吸引及项目引进工作。 凭借对科技领域长期浓厚的兴趣,丁晓枫于2019年9月加入荷兰科技创新参赞万宁先生的团队,担任荷兰驻广州总领事馆科技创新官员一职,关注领域包括氢能源、区块链和智能制造。

Wanyi Wang
Programme Manager for the Hydrogen Economy Portfolio, United Nations Development Programme in China
王婉伊,联合国开发计划署驻华代表处氢能经济项目经理
As the Programme Manager at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in China, Ms Wang Wanyi is responsible for the developing and implementation of projects in areas of decarbonisation, hydrogen and fuel cell commercialisation, renewable energy, and resilience building. She is also responsible for UNDP’s liaison with China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development.
On hydrogen and fuel cell economy, she is currently managing the “Commercialisation of Fuel Cell Vehicle Development Demonstration in China” project and the “Rugao Hydrogen Economy Pilot” project, spreading across 8 cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Great Bay Area, and the Yangtze River Delta, which are the 3 spearheading industrial clusters in China.
Ms Wang is skilled in development programming using participatory approach, managing technical assistance, project management, partnership building, resource mobilisation, coordination, as well as communications and advocacy.
Prior to her assignment with the Country Office, she completed her assignment as a National Specialist through the United Nations Volunteer for UNDP in Guangxi, China. She has also worked for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Geneva, Switzerland, and has experience on areas including refugee social integration, women empowerment, journalism and communications in the United Kingdom and in China.
Ms Wang holds a Master of Science in International Development from the University of Manchester, and two bachelor’s Degrees in Business Studies and Financial Management.
王婉伊现任联合国开发计划署驻华代表处项目经理,主要负责的项目涉及脱碳、氢能和燃料电池商业化推广、可再生能源、社区韧性建设等相关领域。她还是联合国开发计划署在中国环境与发展国际合作委员会的联络员。
在燃料电池和氢能经济方面,她负责管理“促进中国燃料电池汽车商业化发展项目”和“如皋氢能经济示范项目”。项目地覆盖京津冀、粤港澳大湾区和长三角的8个城市,这三个地区同时也是中国目前在氢能和燃料电池领域最前沿的产业集群。
她擅长运用参与式调研方法进行发展项目规划、协调技术援助。她还具备出色的项目管理、伙伴关系建设、资源调动协调以及沟通宣传能力。
在加入联合国开发计划署驻华代表处前,她通过联合国志愿人员组织,作为本国任务专员在中国广西负责实施联合国开发计划署在当地的生物质能示范项目。此前,她在瑞士日内瓦的联合国人道主义事务协调厅工作,也曾在中国、英国积累了难民社会融合、女性赋权、新闻传播等方面的经验。王婉伊取得了英国曼彻斯特大学的国际发展硕士学位,以及商务研究和财务管理的双学士学位。

Dan Yu is currently the Project Director of Beijing CATARC Technology Co. Ltd, China Automotive Technology and Research Center. She has more than ten years of working experience in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and she is actively involved in the implementation of the three projects demonstrating and commercializing FCVs in China, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and UNDP, and with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). She has long been engaged in developing studies of FCVs demonstration, hydrogen industry development and relevant policies & strategies. At the same time, she also took part in the research projects on fuel cells entrusted by national government, international organizations and enterprises.

Dr. Jishi Zhao is the Director of Foshan Institute of Environment and Energy, the Director of the R&D Center of Hydrogen Energy Standardization and the Associate Research Fellow, Foshan University. Dr. Zhao graduated from Tsing Hua University in January 2019 with an academic background in chemical engineering and technology. His current research interest focuses on hydrogen technology development and promotion. He has been leading 23 key research projects, published 26 papers (12 on SCI-indexed journals, 3 on international conferences, and 11 on Chinese core journals) and 6 monographs, and been granted 7 patents. He was recruited under the “Sailing Project” of Guangdong Province in 2018 as urgently needed outstanding talent.
赵吉诗,工学博士,2009年1月毕业于清华大学化学工程与技术专业,现任佛山环境与能源研究院院长、云浮(佛山)氢能标准化创新研发中心主任、佛山科学技术学院副研究员,主要研究方向为氢能技术开发与推广,主持的主要科研项目23项,发表学术论文26篇(SCI 12篇,国际会议3篇,中文核心期刊11篇),专著6部,授权专利7项,2018年入选广东省“扬帆计划”引进紧缺拔尖人才。

Dr. Miu, a professor-level senior engineer, is the responsible person of Shanghai Intelligent New Energy Vehicle Innovation Platform and expert of automobile defect investigation and assessment of SAMR Defective Product Administrative Center. He also serves as the Secretary General of Shanghai Association for New Energy Vehicle and Application Standardization as well as the team leader of the TC11 Electric Vehicle Group of Technical Committee of Automobile and Parts, Certification and Accreditation Administration.

Min Yu is the Executive Deputy General Manager of SinoHytec, and the Council Member of the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association and China Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Alliance. Yu has over 20 years of experience in corporate management and marketing in the automobile industry. He’s been dedicated himself to the R&D and upscaling of hydrogen fuel cells since 2015.
He’s been involved as a leading or managerial role in 19 key projects related to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and as coordinator and participant in 6 key breakthrough technology research projects in hydrogen fuel cell at both the Beijing municipal level and the national level, making great contributions to the solutions for fuel cell engine systems, key components and whole vehicle operation.
He also participated in the “Key Technology and Application of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus” and won the first prize of “China Automobile Industrial Sci-Tech Achievements” in 2019. Yu is also active in formulating industrial planning and standards together with the municipal and national authorities to strengthen the research-industry collaboration, promote the demonstration application of hydrogen and fuel cells, and facilitate the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles.

Michiel Bierkens is the Consul General at the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Guangzhou. He took up his appointment as HM Consul General on 19 August 2019. He leads the Dutch Government's engagement in the four provinces of the South China region: Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi and Hainan. Prior to that, Mr Bierkens was the Counsellor of Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of the Netherlands in New Delhi from 2014 to 2019.
Mr Bierkens joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989. He worked in Vienna, Buenos Aires, the Western Hemisphere Department in The Hague and Colombo until 1998. From 1998 to 2002, he worked as the First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands to the United Nations in Vienna. He was the Policy Coordinator of the Western Balkans Department in The Hague from 2002 to 2006. Afterwards, he worked at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Accra as the Deputy Head of Mission from 2006 to 2010. He worked as the Head of West-Africa and Horn of Africa Division at the Sub-Sahara Africa Department from 2010, before moving to Delhi in 2014.

Michiel Bierkens is the Consul General at the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Guangzhou. He took up his appointment as HM Consul General on 19 August 2019. Hydrogen Envoy at the Ministry of Economic Affairs & Climate Policy of the Netherlands

Noé van Hulst is Hydrogen Envoy at the Ministry of Economic Affairs & Climate Policy in the Netherlands. Prior to that, Mr van Hulst was the Dutch Ambassador to the OECD from September 2013 to September 2018 and Chairman of the IEA Governing Board. From 2003 to 2007, he worked at the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris as Director of Long-Term Co-operation and Policy Analysis. He then became Secretary-General of the International Energy Forum (IEF) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 2008 to 2011. He was Director of the Energy Academy Europe in 2012-2013. Before that, Mr van Hulst worked at the Ministry of Economic Affairs from 1988, lastly as Director-General for Energy. Mr van Hulst has a PhD in economics from the VU Amsterdam.

Tina Pan is the Operation Manager of Hymove since 2018. Prior to that, she had previous roles in the logistics industry. HyMove manufactures top quality hydrogen fuel cell systems for use as range extenders in electric buses, heavy duty vehicles and stationary power modules. The HyMove hydrogen fuel cell range extenders (H2FC- RE) are sizable and can add an extra 100 to 500 km to the range of an electrical (city) bus. HyMove is the most experienced in the Netherlands in building H2FC systems. The H2FC systems are automotive certified and can be build in any make electric bus. The result is accordingly: H2FC systems with unique properties: extremely energy efficient, long life cycle, long maintenance interval, cost efficient and flexible configuration.

Oliver Bishop is the General Manager for Shell’s global activities in hydrogen. His team runs Shell’s hydrogen stations in Germany, the UK and North America, and he is also responsible for product development as well as research and development. He is responsible for Shell’s participation in the H2 Mobility Germany Hydrogen station joint venture which was launched in 2015 and is now rolling out stations across Germany; the 90th station should open by the end of 2020. Besides Germany, Mr Bishop has overseen Hydrogen station openings in the US, the UK and Canada, as well as the construction of the world’s largest 10MW PEM electrolyser in Germany.
During his 22-year career at Shell, Mr Bishop was General Manager for Shell’s trading business in Switzerland, held a post as M&A Manager in Shell’s Mergers & Acquisitions team, and has had previous roles in Fuels Retailing, Finance, Strategy and Consulting. He holds a degree in electronics engineering and is based in Switzerland with his wife and two children. He holds dual Swiss and British citizenship.

Tobias Chen is the Head of Hydrogen Asia-Pacific at Shell. Mr Chen joined Shell in 2011. From 2017 to 2020, he was the Energy Transition Manager. Besides, he worked as the New Energies China Business Development Lead. Prior to that, he had several sales and business development roles until 2017. Shell is an international energy company with expertise in the exploration, production, refining and marketing of oil and natural gas, and the manufacturing and marketing of chemicals. Shell has been involved in hydrogen production as well as in research, development and application for decades, with a dedicated business unit, Shell Hydrogen.

Allen Liu is the General Manager of SHV Energy in Guangzhou. He focuses on cylinder LPG distribution and retail. Mr Liu has 10 years of experience in energy retail industry. He had previous roles in the service station industry, the financial industry and the LNG and LPG station industry. He also worked at the operations department of a hydrogen refueling station. SHV Energy provides low-carbon and clean energy solutions for business and residential customers in over 25 countries across four continents. It is a leading global distributor of LPG and also a significant player in small-scale LNG and sustainable biomass.

What is hydrogen, what policies do China and the Netherlands have, what are the major projects from the private sector and what’s the focus of the main research institutes and universities. In this series of 5 webinars we try to address these issues and give an in-depth analysis into the hydrogen sector from several angles with expert speakers from China and the Netherlands.
In this second episode we’ll dive into the current status of green hydrogen production of China and the Netherlands. Our co-organizer, UNDP, will introduce the Chinese green hydrogen situation and there will be several Dutch companies introducing their green hydrogen production as well.

Fons Klein Tuente studied Chinese & business for 4 years in Maastricht and 2 years translation Chinese / English / Dutch in Antwerp. From 2012 to 2016, he worked for the Chinese e-commerce company LightInTheBox in Beijing where he was responsible for the Dutch business development and team leader of the freelance team (translators, customer service, social media and designers). Fons then moved to South China to work for the Foshan government (a city next to Guangzhou) from 2016 to 2019. He was the team leader of the international investment promotion team and who tried to get international investments and projects to the city. His ever-present interest in science & technology drove him to the function of innovation officer in the Dutch consulate of Guangzhou in the team of Taake manning since September 2019. Fons focuses on several sectors, including hydrogen, blockchain and smart manufacturing.

Currently serving as Programme Manager with UNDP China, Zhang Weidong is in charge of developing and implementing projects related to water resources management, sustainable livelihood, hydrogen economy, carbon emission reduction, and Climate Change adaptation/mitigation in partnership with both governments and private sector. In developing capacities for climate change in China, he has been involved in implementing projects in partnership with National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in developing the provincial climate change programmes and institutional arrangement; developing the provincial capacities in creating Greenhouse Gases inventories and registry system for emission trading system in China.
In promoting hydrogen economy in China, he has been involved in designing and implementing two phase of promoting the commercialization of Fuel-Cell Bus with funding from GEF and involving in the design and implementation of the 3rd phase of the FCV project; the UNDP first hydrogen economy pilot project, in which he leads the development of carbon trading methodologies; He is now advocating a shift to a Hydrogen Economy with hydrogen from renewable sources and eventually a Hydrogen Society in China.
In actively promoting UNDP Public-Private Partnership, he is leading a flagship programme in partnership with Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Commerce, and Coca-Cola Greater China in addressing water related issues in China, including climate change adaptation, ecosystem management, drinking water safety in rural regions; use of recycled water from urban sewage; sustainable agriculture through improving irrigation efficiency; reduction of non-point source pollution from agriculture.

Jörg Gigler (1967) has been working in the field of sustainability for more than 20 years, with a focus in the last 12 years on the interaction between sustainability and gas. He worked as a manager in gas consultancy (DNV, Gasunie), at Energy Valley and NL Agency (the predecessor of RVO) as an advisor, and as a researcher at universities and research institutes. Jörg has been working as an independent consultant since 2013, focusing on energy, sustainability and innovation related to gas. He is currently the director of TKI New Gas. Jörg studied at Wageningen University (Agricultural technology). In 2000 he successfully completed his PhD research on the theme of bioenergy.
About TKI New Gas
The New Gas Innovation Team (TKI New Gas), a foundation installed by the Dutch government and part of the Topsector Energy, organises a systematic approach to innovation on new gas-related topics since 2011. The main objective is to valorise on the strengths that the Netherlands can offer as an important gas country in Europe by supporting and promoting a broad innovation portfolio and to facilitate the transition towards a carbon neutral energy system. Current topics are focused around the Utilisation of natural gas assets for the energy transition, a.o. reusing Northsea assets, the use of LNG for Transportation, the Production of Green Gases, System Flexibility of Gas (a.o. Power2Gas), CCU/S and Hydrogen Production & Utilisation.

Hui ZHAO

Since joined Beijing Feichi Green Energy Power Supply Technology Co., Ltd. in 2007, Hui Zhao has engaged in hydrogen and fuel cell industry, mainly focusing on the high-pressure hydrogen supply system, hydrogen refueling station, hyrogen production station used for hydrogen FC vehicles. During this period, Hui Zhao headed the research team for developing the core technologies of the high-pressure hydrogen supply system applied for FC buses. He was involved in the first hydrogen production and refueling station design and construction project, which is Beijing Feichi Jingli Hydrogen production and refueling station. The Station powered FC buses for Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. Hui Zhao has contributed to hydrogen technology development in early phase in China.
In 2015, Hui Zhao joined China’s largest hydrogen company – Beijing SinoHytec Co., Ltd, and transferred to its subsidary Beijing Hypower Hydrogen Technology Co., ltd in 2017, working for hydrogen infrastructure construction and application promotion. This job was related to hydrogen production from both renewable energy and industrial emissions, hydrogen storage and transportation, hydrogen refueling station design, construction and safety operation, hydrogen comprehensive utilization and other aspects. Since 2019, Hui Zhao has been appointed as Vice General Manager and Technical Director of Zhangjiakou Hypower New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.
自2007年起进入北京飞驰绿能电源技术公司开始从事氢能与燃料电池行业,主要从事燃料电池车用高压供氢系统、加氢站、制氢站工作,在此期间担任科技部《燃料电池客车用高压供氢系统关键技术及研发》课题组长。同时还参与设计、建设了国内第一个供应燃料电池车辆的制氢加氢站-北京飞驰竟力制氢加氢站,并服务于2008年北京奥运会燃料电池客车运行。为国内早期氢能技术的研究做出了一定贡献。
在2015年,进入国内最大的氢能企业-北京亿华通科技股份有限公司;2017年转入北京海珀尔氢能科技公司,从事氢能基础设施的建设与推广应用,涉及可再生能源制氢、工业尾气提纯制氢、氢气储存与运输、加氢站设计与建设、加氢站安全运营、氢能综合应用等方面。2019年进入张家口海珀尔新能源科技公司任副总经理、技术总监。
Lennart van der Burg

Lennart is hydrogen expert and as business development manager green hydrogen responsible for the hydrogen R&D development program within TNO. At this moment the program contains more than 50 hydrogen projects related to hydrogen production transportation, storage and application. Lennart is also leading the Power-2-Hydrogen program line of the Shared research initiative VoltaChem. Here we work together with industry on the improvement of water electrolysers with respect to cost, performance and upscaling. Lennart has a strong dedication to tackle climate change and is besides TNO active as a local councillor and as a social entrepreneur on sustainable lifestyle. Lennart has over 10 year experience in the renewable energy and water technology sector and has a master degree in environmental economics and water management.

Fons Klein Tuente studied Chinese & business for 4 years in Maastricht and 2 years translation Chinese / English / Dutch in Antwerp. From 2012 to 2016, he worked for the Chinese e-commerce company LightInTheBox in Beijing where he was responsible for the Dutch business development and team leader of the freelance team (translators, customer service, social media and designers). Fons then moved to South China to work for the Foshan government (a city next to Guangzhou) from 2016 to 2019. He was the team leader of the international investment promotion team and who tried to get international investments and projects to the city. His ever-present interest in science & technology drove him to the function of innovation officer in the Dutch consulate of Guangzhou in the team of Taake manning since September 2019. Fons focuses on several sectors, including hydrogen, blockchain and smart manufacturing.

Els de Wit is program coordinator sustainable and smart mobility at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. Based in the Division International Affairs she coordinates a team responsible for national and international policy standards and innovation in the field of sustainable and smart mobility.
Ensuring implementation and policy development for smart and sustainable transport and sustainable energy for transport on a national level and within Europe as well as innovation programmes that aims at enabling the transport sector in general (road, maritime and aviation) to become more sustainable and meet the commitments that were agreed upon within the framework of UNFCCC and the EU. Together with her colleagues she works closely with all relevant stakeholders in the field of transport and energy in public private partnerships for sustainable mobility (eg hydrogen, electricity) and smart mobility (e.g. mobility as a service, automated driving). She is currently chair of the international government support group on alternative fuels (GSG) - a network of European ministries responsible for the implementation of EU directives in the field of sustainable transport and sustainable energy for transport. On a global level she has been co-chair of the Zero Emission Vehicle Alliance until 2019, as the Netherlands is one of the founding members of this alliance that.
She graduated both in international environmental law and French at the University of Amsterdam in 1991 and 1993. Furthermore Els is an active mother of two daughters.

Hack Heyward is a veteran of the fuel cell industry, having worked with the world’s major hydrogen energy firms and research institutions to develop networks in China. Hack is now directing business development activities for NedStack for the maritime industry and is working closely with China-based shipbuilders, designers, and operators to introduce NedStack’s long-lasting, durable fuel cell technology to the local passenger ferry industry. Prior to joining NedStack, Hack designed fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) for auto OEMs in China. Hack has also worked to bring advanced hydrogen technology into the Chinese steel and energy storage industries.

Theo is well-known and experienced in development and production of highly quality technical equipment/products.

Professor of Sustainable Energy at HAN University

Mascha Smit studied physics at the University of Amsterdam and performed a final project on fuel cells at the Dutch Energy Research Center (ECN). After that she obtained a PhD from the University of Oxford in the field of corrosion. She then worked as a researcher at a governmental research institute in Mexico for 12 years, where she was a founding member of the Department of Renewable Energy as well as the related Masters and PhD programmes. In 2012 she started work as an R&D manager at NedStack Fuel Cell Technology BV in Arnhem. Since February 2016 she has been working as a professor of sustainable energy at HAN University of Applied Sciences.
The HAN University of Applied Sciences is a vocational university of applied sciences with campuses in Arnhem and Nijmegen in the Netherlands. It offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a wide range of subjects.
HAN is setting up a shared facility hydrogen lab in IPKW Arnhem for applied hydrogen technology research and development. HAN also has a master program 'Engineering Systems - Sustainable Energy', supported by Dutch government with a focus on sustainable energy, including hydrogen technology.

Marco Betting is the Commercial Director ar HyET since 2019. He focuses on deployment of high yield energy conversion technologies for sustainable energy infrastructures. He has a demonstrated history of working in the oil and energy industry for more than 25 years.
HyEt supplies fully engineered electrochemical hydrogen compression and purification systems from 5 to 1000 bar and at a capacity of 10kg/day and upwards. Our customers range from operators of hydrogen refueling stations (HRS) and industries using high purity hydrogen in their processes to utility companies and SMEs. HyET’s Electrochemical Hydrogen Purification and Compression (EHPC) technology significantly lowers CAPEX and OPEX of the hydrogen supply chain for all current industrial hydrogen markets as well as for future FCEV related markets and applications.

In this series of 5 webinars we try to address these issues and give an in-depth analysis into the hydrogen sector from several angles with expert speakers from China and the Netherlands.
In this fourth episode we’ll explore the world of science and research behind hydrogen technology. Universities and knowledge institutes from both China and the Netherlands will talk about and introduce their latest research findings on several different hydrogen topics.

Piet Warnaar
Senior Researcher and Business Developer, TNO

Piet Warnaar is a senior researcher and business developer of TNO, division Energy Transition unit Wind Energy and an experienced engineer and project manager of onshore and offshore wind farms. He is responsible for advice on engineering, contracting and construction management.
As from 2006, he worked as a project manager construction of onshore and offshore wind farms, biomass plants and solar plants in Europe with a total capacity of 65 MWe and as foundation and cable installation package manager of offshore wind farm Belwind I (165 MW) in Belgium.
From 2011 onwards Piet has worked on engineering, contracting and construction of several wind farms on land (approx. 170 MWe) and has been involved in multiple due diligences of onshore wind farms (80 MWe) and several offshore wind farms both in preparation (Gemini, 600 MWe) as well as under construction (Belwind, 165 MWe) and in the role of project director for grout repairs of Prinses Amalia offshore wind farm (120 MWe).
From 2014 onwards Piet is one of the linking persons between research and industry: where questions need further research, companies can contact Piet to request support in joined research; also Piet is the contact person when industry wishes consultancy or engineering support tools which ECN/ TNO have produced over the last 40 years.

Lennart is hydrogen expert and as business development manager green hydrogen responsible for the hydrogen R&D development program within TNO. At this moment the program contains more than 50 hydrogen projects related to hydrogen production transportation, storage and application. Lennart is also leading the Power-2-Hydrogen program line of the Shared research initiative VoltaChem. Here we work together with industry on the improvement of water electrolysers with respect to cost, performance and upscaling. Lennart has a strong dedication to tackle climate change and is besides TNO active as a local councillor and as a social entrepreneur on sustainable lifestyle. Lennart has over 10 year experience in the renewable energy and water technology sector and has a master degree in environmental economics and water management.

Hong Mei YU
Researcher, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences
俞红梅,中科院大连化学物理研究所研究员
Dr. Yu joined Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences as a researcher back in 1993. She is currently the Deputy Secretariat of National Technical Committee 342 on Fuel Cell and Flow Battery of Standardization Administration of China, as well as leading the High-Efficiency Electrolysis Hydrogen Production Research Team from Department of Fuel Cell of DICP.
As an editorial board member of Chinese Journal of Power Sources (CJPS) and Renewable Energy Resources, Dr. Yu has been continuously engaged in hydrogen production by PEM water electrolysis research and pioneered the development of fuel cell technologies in China. In 2007, she was selected in the One Million Talents Project in Liaoning Province.
Dr. Yu facilitated and worked extensively across the PEM fuel cell field with a variety of projects including the 863 Program, General and Key Programs of National Natural Science Fund, subsidy programs for short-term returning oversea students of MoHRSS, research projects under the EU Framework Programme and relevant enterprises projects. With more than 90 articles published on domestic and international academic journals, Dr. Yu has demonstrated her expertise as a fuel cell technology specialist.
Dr. Yu took the lead in formulating 3 national standardizations, and received many prestigious accolades represented by over 120 patents applications, more than 40 authorized patents and 3 provincial & municipal awards. She cooperates with other international experts on fuel cell technologies as the convenor of IEC / TC 105 Working Group 13, and as an active member of IEA Advanced Fuel Cell Working Group.

At the University of Groningen, he is appointed as the Professor of the Chair of Energy Conversion and at Delft University of Technology, he continues to teach and is involved in setting up the TU Delft "Negative Emissions" program. He did his MSc thesis research at Delft University on “Generation of Electricity and Heat using Biomass Gasification, Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and Micro turbines” and received his MSc from University of Oldenburg, Germany. In 2007 he finished his PhD at TU Delft with a thesis titled “High efficiency energy systems based on biomass gasifiers, SOFCs with Ni/GDC anodes and gas turbines”. He is involved in the supervision of research activities related to the development of fuel cell systems, electrochemistry of fuel oxidation at SOFC anodes, biomass gasifier / fuel cell systems, high temperature biosyngas cleaning, and thermodynamic modelling of power plants. He teaches courses on fuel cell systems and thermodynamics of energy conversion. He supervises a group of several PhD students and researchers/ research students on topics related to fuel cells . He is a member on International Energy Agency SOC annex and acts as a member of the European Energy Research Alliance Joint Program on Fuel Cells and Hydrogen.

Prof. Zhang has been the project leader or key research team member of sixteen projects including 863 projects, international cooperation, World Expo special projects, and high-tech industrial translation projects. He has published over 80 papers, including 50 on SCI-indexed journals. Meanwhile, he has applied for over 30 patents (20 approved). Many of his research works have fill the gaps of domestic development and been applied in industrial-scale cases with satisfactory economic and social outcomes. Part of his research achievements have been recognized by the awards released by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai municipality.

Dr. Matteo Gazzani has been assistant professor in the group of Energy and Resources at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development since May 1st 2017. His research focuses on energy systems and integrates technical concepts from chemical, mechanical and electrical engineering.
Before joining the Copernicus Institute, Dr. Matteo Gazzani worked as senior scientist (2016-2017) and as postdoctoral fellow (2013-2016) in the Institute of Process Engineering at ETH Zurich. He received his BSc and MSc in Energy Engineering, with focus on power production, from Politecnico di Milano. He obtained his Ph.D. cum laude in Energy and Nuclear Sciences and Technologies at Politecnico di Milano.
