Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of today’s most pressing global health threats, undermining the effectiveness of medicines in humans, animals, and agriculture. Tackling AMR requires coordinated solutions across countries.
This report explores how China is tackling the challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), with a special focus on the animal husbandry and aquaculture sectors. Healthy and sustainable agrifood systems are central to the global One Health vision, and given China’s growing demand for protein, livestock and fish production require targeted policies and integrated solutions.
The report highlights:
- China’s national action plan to curb AMR, and a comparison of antimicrobial usage and resistance trends in the human and animal domains with the Netherlands and the global context.
- The Ministry of Agriculture’s approach to reducing antimicrobial use in the animal sector.
- A SWOT analysis of China’s approach and a potential roadmap for Sino-Dutch cooperation in combating AMR.
By combining insights from both national strategies and international perspectives, the report identifies opportunities to strengthen collaboration between the Netherlands and China in building a healthier, more sustainable future.
