About the Expo
With a yearly passenger traffic growth of 15%, analysts expect that the Chinese Aviation market will eclipse the US’ by 2024.¹ Next to that, the Chinese government has an ambitious strategy to break the worldwide hegemony of Boeing and Airbus, with the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). It is in this context that the mission to the Aviation Expo in Beijing took place on the 19th till 22nd of September. The expo’s support base consists of China’s top-level aviation parties, including Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), the Aero-engine Corporation of China (AECC), COMAC, as well as top-level governmental parties, making it a prestigious, must-attend event in the aviation industry.

About the Mission
A broad palette of aviation themes was touched upon in the 9 especially selected sections ranging from Aircraft Manufacturing to Airport Services and from Unmanned Aircraft Systems to Aero Engines.
The Dutch representation at the Holland Pavilion consisted of Netherlands Aerospace Group (NAG), Nederlands Lucht- en Ruimtevaart Laboratorium (NLR), ADSE Consulting, TenCate Composites and Straaltechniek. The expo brought them considerable opportunities to meet with Chinese aviation companies that, given their ambitious plans, offer many opportunities for Dutch companies.
In support of the Sino-Dutch government level agreement on civil aviation cooperation that has been in place since 2015, ambassador Kronenburg hosted a reception at the residence for Dutch and Chinese visitors of the Expo. There were lively discussions on the continuation of cooperation between the Chinese and Dutch involved parties.
