One of the most pressing issues of China today is water. The country is faced with severe shortages of water, water pollution and disasters. The need for new solutions to tackle these problems is high and the technology gap in comparison with first world countries is still considerable. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) therefore systematically analyzed the basic characteristics of China’s issues and made a roadmap for future developments in the sector on short term (to 2020), medium (to 2030) and long-term (to 2050). This water roadmap addresses five different aspects: water resources, water environment, water ecology, water hazards and water management.
In preparation for the international congress Innovations for Global Water Challenges in Delft, The Netherlands on 14 may, NOST China analyzed the Chinese Roadmap to explore new collaboration possibilities for China and The Netherlands in water R&D and innovations. The Chinese roadmap, as one of the results of this investigation can be found below.
