A little over a week ago Philips and TU Eindhoven came to Zhejiang University in Hangzhou for their annual board meeting of the Brain Bridge program.
The ‘Brain Bridge’ (BB) Program has been initiated in November 2005 through a tri-party international cooperation among the European host (TU/e: Technical University of Eindhoven, the Netherlands), Philips Research, and the return host (ZJU: Zhejiang University, China).
Consul-General Peter Potman and Jaap van Etten (NOST) were present during the meeting and also participated as judges in the afternoon program: the 1st ‘People Centric Design Competition’. In this competition students were given only a few weeks to come up with designs and prototypes to address challenges related to ageing issues in China ranging from healthcare and lighting to the personal care domain. All judges, including Henk van Houten (General Manager of Philips Research), Frans Greidanus (Head of Research and CTO Asia), Tammo de Ligny (Head of Philips Design China) and Hans Van Duijn (Rector Magnificus TU/e) were very impressed.
