New joint research projects and seminars between China and the Netherlands will be funded under the second phase of the Joint Scientific Thematic Research Programme (JSTP). After a three year pilot, the second phase of JSTP was launched earlier this year during a festive reception in Beijing which was opened by Mr. Halbe Zijlstra, State Secretary of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands. The second phase will allow another three joint research calls in different annual themes.

For the 2011-2012 Call, Dutch and Chinese research groups are invited to submit proposals for joint projects related to the research topic ‘Agriculture & Food: How to Feed the World?’. Alongside this thematic Call, a joint Call for Proposals for Dialogue Seminars is also launched which is open to all disciplines. This Call will fund joint scientific seminars aimed at networking and identifying future research topics for China and the Netherlands.

The annual budget for the JSTP Calls is €1.6 mln on the Dutch side and will be matched by the Chinese counterparts.

The JSTP is jointly facilitated by the following Chinese and Dutch government and research authorities:
─ the Netherlands Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW)
─ the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW)
─ the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO)
